Woods in the City

The entire yard was designed to mimic a pre-existing natural woodland with a meandering stream, a pond and rock outcrops. A working dry creek bed connects the front and back yards, serves as a 'sidewalk', and allows stormwater drainage from the backyard to the street. Rocks, boulders, and plants were selected and located so as to best support the woodland theme.

The house has careful detailing with horizontal bands of white and restrained red. While the yard is to look natural, the foundation plants (which serve as a transition between the house and the yard) support and reflect the details of the house. They are mass plantings of strong horizontal bands of green, white and red, and offer seasonal changes in colour.
